Top 10 Compact SUVs April 2025: April 2025 brought significant shifts in the compact SUV landscape, with a mix of steady performers, surprise comebacks, and some notable slowdowns. At the top of the sales chart, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza continued to dominate the segment with 16,971 units sold. Although this marks a marginal 1% dip from April 2024, it was still enough to keep Brezza ahead of the pack. Maruti’s recipe of practical features and a widespread service network clearly remains a winning formula.

Tata Nexon took second place with 15,457 units, but its 36% year-over-year drop reflects mounting competition and shifting buyer preferences. Even with its strong brand presence, Nexon appears to be facing pressure from newer and more dynamic offerings.

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx held firm in third with 14,345 units, mirroring its performance from the same month last year. While there’s no growth, maintaining stable numbers in such a fluctuating market is an achievement in itself.
On the flip side, the Tata Punch saw a significant fall from grace. Once a high-flyer, the micro SUV managed 12,496 units, registering a sharp 35% decline. This drop suggests that its early momentum may be slowing down.

In contrast, Kia Sonet showed quiet but consistent progress. With 8,068 units sold, it posted a modest 2% increase, proving that even incremental growth can go a long way in a saturated market. The Hyundai Venue, however, slid to 7,953 units, a 13% drop from April 2024, hinting at waning demand.
One of the biggest surprises of the month was the Mahindra XUV 3XO. The freshly launched model turned heads with 7,568 units sold, translating to a whopping 89% increase over its predecessor. Mahindra’s aggressive pricing and updated design seem to have struck the right chord with buyers.
Lower in the rankings, the Hyundai Exter clocked 5,416 units, suffering a 30% decline year-on-year. Despite its strong debut last year, maintaining volume appears to be a challenge.

Making a strong entry at ninth was the brand-new Skoda Kylaq, which posted 5,364 units. Powered by a refined 1.0L turbo-petrol engine and based on the highly localized MQB A0 IN platform, the Kylaq offers both manual and automatic options. It’s clearly aiming to carve a niche for itself in this crowded segment.
Rounding off the top ten was Kia’s latest offering, the Syros, which recorded 4,000 units. Positioned between the Sonet and Seltos, the Syros is expected to gain momentum in the coming months, especially with a new generation model on the horizon.
As the compact SUV segment becomes more dynamic and fiercely competitive, automakers are under increasing pressure to innovate and adapt. With multiple new launches, facelifts, and feature upgrades expected in the coming months, buyers can look forward to even more choices—and intense competition among brands trying to secure their spot in the spotlight.
