7-Seater Volkswagen Tayron SUV Spotted Testing For First Time In India: Volkswagen is gearing up to expand its SUV lineup in India with the introduction of a new three-row model – the Tayron. Positioned as a spiritual successor to the Tiguan Allspace, the Tayron is essentially a close sibling of the Skoda Kodiaq, sharing its platform, engine, interior layout, and a host of premium features. It’s the latest move in Volkswagen’s strategy to strengthen its foothold in the premium SUV segment in India.

Just last month, Volkswagen India launched the Tiguan R-Line, and shortly after, opened pre-bookings for the much-anticipated Golf GTI, with deliveries scheduled to begin across the country in June 2025. Adding more excitement to its Indian portfolio, the German carmaker is now preparing to introduce the Tayron, which was recently spotted completely undisguised during road testing in India for the first time.

The Tayron is expected to debut in India around the festive season in October or November 2025. Once launched, it will go head-to-head with rivals like the Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota Fortuner, and Jeep Meridian. While it may be new to the Indian market, the Tayron has already made its mark in international markets and is being touted as a modern alternative to the now-discontinued Tiguan Allspace.

Spy shots reveal the Tayron in a sleek Oyster Silver finish, and it stands out with its 18-inch alloy wheels, giving it a muscular and upscale appearance. The SUV is 231mm longer than the standard Tiguan sold globally, and this added length makes room for a third row of seats, turning it into a proper seven-seater. With an extended wheelbase, the Tayron also offers generous legroom, especially for second- and third-row passengers – something that will definitely appeal to larger families.

Essentially, the Tayron is the Skoda Kodiaq’s mechanical twin. There’s a high chance Volkswagen will assemble the Tayron locally at its Aurangabad facility, where the Kodiaq is also put together. This strategy is expected to keep costs in check and allow the company to price the SUV competitively in the Indian market.

On the inside, the Tayron is set to deliver a premium experience. Much like the Kodiaq, it will feature a cabin packed with top-tier equipment. Highlights include Matrix LED headlamps, a panoramic sunroof, a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, a massive 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a multi-zone automatic climate control system. The inclusion of a 360-degree camera will further add to the convenience factor.

Safety is another strong suit for the Tayron. The SUV is expected to come loaded with advanced features such as 9 airbags, a Head-Up Display (HUD), Park Assist Plus with distance control, and a high-resolution rear-view camera. These features will make the Tayron not only a comfortable but also a safe choice for Indian buyers.

Globally, the Tayron is offered with a range of powertrains including petrol, diesel, mild hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options. However, for India, Volkswagen is likely to keep things simple and stick to a single petrol engine offering. The India-spec Tayron is expected to be powered by the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder TSI engine found in the Kodiaq. This motor generates 184 bhp of power and 320 Nm of peak torque. It will be paired with a 7-speed DSG (dual-clutch automatic) gearbox and Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system, delivering both power and stability across various terrains.

As for fuel efficiency, the Kodiaq has an ARAI-certified mileage of 14.86 kmpl, and given the similarities between the two models, we can expect the Tayron to deliver a similar fuel economy figure.

In terms of pricing, the Volkswagen Tayron is likely to start at around ₹40 lakh (ex-showroom). The fully loaded, top-end variant equipped with all the premium bells and whistles might touch ₹45 lakh (ex-showroom). The decision to locally assemble the Tayron at Volkswagen’s facility in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar is a strategic move, aimed at keeping costs in check and offering a strong value proposition to Indian buyers.

Volkswagen’s aggressive push with new product launches – from performance hatchbacks like the Golf GTI to large, feature-packed SUVs like the Tayron – indicates a strong commitment to the Indian market. The company is clearly trying to broaden its appeal and attract a wider customer base, especially in the premium segment where demand for large family SUVs has been on the rise.

With a rich feature list, powerful engine, elegant design, and competitive pricing, the Tayron could very well be the next big thing for Volkswagen in India. Whether it can outperform its well-established rivals like the Fortuner and the Kodiaq remains to be seen, but one thing is certain – the Tayron has all the right ingredients to make a strong impression.
